The weekly roundup – All-stars

Superstar meets superstar.

These past few weeks, the Philippines has been blessed with great sporting events, such as on court rivalries and the rise of our very own football team. Last weekend, NBA fans were treated to a rare opportunity to witness Kobe Bryant and a slew of NBA stars battle against two Filipino squads. Nicknamed “Smart All-stars”, the NBA selection defeated the PBA selection last Saturday, 131-105, and the Smart Gilas team the following day, 98-89. On Sunday’s game, the entrance of People’s Champ Manny Pacquiao during the fourth quarter caused a commotion, as it was the NBA players’ turn to be starstruck.

Apart from Bryant, the All-star lineup also included current NBA MVP Derrick Rose, Oklahoma scorer Kevin Durant, and former ROY Chris Paul, among others. Regardless of the outcome,  it was a dream come true for a lot of people as our local stars were able to play with their idols, and Filipinos got a taste of the NBA. Now let’s head on to more news:

  • The peso is seen to strengthen at PHP41 versus the dollar by year end. Impact may vary on the way you do business, but this is a good sign for the Philippine economy.
