150 years ago, a hero was born...

June 19 marks the 150th birth anniversary of Jose Rizal, national hero of the Philippines. To kick-off the festivities, the tallest monument of Rizal was inaugurated in his hometown of Calamba, Laguna. Also, various memorabilia were displayed at the Ateneo de Manila, Rizal’s alma mater, and fun fairs and lecture sessions were also held in various areas around the country. The commemoration wasn’t limited to the Philippines, as Filipino communities abroad also payed tribute to our national hero, such as in Belgium where Rizal had a brief stint.
